A Film by CALYPSO CRAGG

When former rising actress Catherine is offered a major meeting for a new Wuthering Heights adaptation, she sees a chance to finally reclaim her career. But alone in her flat, old fears and buried insecurities surface, pushing her into an intense private struggle as the moment draws closer.

Catherine, once a rising actress, is offered a career-defining meeting for a bold new Wuthering Heights adaptation. Alone in her flat, determination gives way to spiralling self-doubt. As the meeting approaches, old wounds resurface and her sense of reality fractures. Big Break charts one woman’s private battle with pressure, ambition, and the haunting fear of falling short.

Director’s Statement

“This story is deeply personal to me. I’ve never been a breakthrough “rising star,” but I do know the emotional whiplash of being an actor; the cycle of hope, disappointment, silence, and self-doubt that shapes this industry. There are moments where you feel certain your life is about to change, only to be dropped back into uncertainty without warning.

Actors are some of the most resilient people I know. Their ability to stay optimistic, to keep investing in themselves after countless no’s and almosts, is extraordinary and yet rarely seen. The hardest part isn’t rejection; it’s the waiting. The quiet. The hope that builds and collapses over and over again.

Catherine’s story exaggerates those pressures, but the emotional truth is real. I wanted to show the private version of ambition; the version that plays out in bedrooms, bathrooms, and mirrors long before anyone else is watching. The version where you’re alone with your fear, trying to convince yourself you still have something to give.

In many ways, this film is a love letter to actors. A reminder that the struggle isn’t a personal failing; it’s part of the landscape. And even in the most fragile moments, there is something extraordinary about choosing to keep going.”
